Established in 1944 by Jesse McGee, Abacus entered the marketplace as a contract cleaner specializing in commercial janitorial maintenance. Today, Abacus is owned and managed by Richard McGee, Sr. (son of Jesse McGee) and his two sons, Richard McGee, Jr. and Devin McGee.

Abacus Housekeeping Service
For nearly 30 years, from the late 1940's to the early 1970's, Abacus was in the marketplace as one of the premier cleaning contractors in the Mid-Atlantic region. As our clients' needs changed, it became necessary to diversify and offer our customers other services. This decision proved to be a turning point in the expansion of the Company.

Abacus Security Service
During the Spring of 1978, Abacus recruited a recently retired Police Commissioner. Weeks later, Abacus launched its Security Services Division. Recognizing this need in the marketplace, combined with a large client base, the security division became one of the most well respected security agencies in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Abacus Staffing Service
With our knowledge of the business community, Abacus recognized another value-added service for its customers. During the early 1980's, Abacus established its Staffing Services Division. As business flourished, Abacus soon became a leader in the staffing industry. Today, with over 3,000 employees, Abacus is providing vital employees, not only to private businesses but also to state and local governments throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region.

Abacus Landscape Management
In the early 1990's, as a request from many of our clients, Abacus was committed, once again, to establish the Landscape Management division. This division offers our customers specialized services in professional lawn care and property management.

Today, Abacus manages regional offices located in Maryland, Virginia, Washington, D.C., Delaware, North Carolina, Georgia, New Jersey, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Utilizing an IBM AS/400 as our computer backbone, we have networked our regional offices by high speed satellite and DSL (digital subscriber lines) through a VPN (virtual private network) enabling Abacus to track thousands of employees across the country.

With companies shifting their focus to vendor consolidation and outsourcing of goods and services, Abacus has positioned itself as a reputable and viable source for professional security and patrol services, commercial housekeeping, landscape management and staffing services.
